(TVIRD) Group of Companies has been a steadfast advocate for environmental protection and conservation. As far as commemorating events of global significance, the company has further demonstrated its commitment through its annual celebrations of Earth Day, Earth Hour, Arbor Day, Ocean Month and World Environment Day, among others, showcasing its dedication to environmental preservation.
The Famous Earth Day Celebration
Over the years, the TVIRD Group has not been remiss in commemorating Earth Day nor highlighting its significance since its maiden Canatuan Gold-Silver / Copper-Zinc Project. In fact, the company began this tradition even before it was officially recognized as a national environmental event.
The company’s journey towards environmental stewardship gained momentum in 2008 when then Environment Manager of Agata Mining Ventures, Inc., Jesalyn Guingguing, initiated a commemoration that was nothing short of a day-long festival. This marked the beginning of Earth Day’s tradition as a TVIRD-wide observance.
Since then, Agata has been celebrating Earth Day yearly with much enthusiasm, owing its activities such as the Earth Run, field competitions, campfire singing, the traditional lighting of the earth day banner, and of course, a boodle-style banquet as the grand fellowship activity devoid of ranks or positions. The day culminates with the coveted Mr. and Ms. Earth pageant where competition may be fierce but all in good fun.
This year, Earth Day takes the theme “Our Power, Our Planet – Green Rise for Change” and is also celebrated at the TVIRD Balabag Gold-Silver Project in Zamboanga del Sur, and at its Siana Gold Project operated by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Greenstone Resources Corporation, in Surigao del Norte.
The Solemnity of Earth Hour
In addition to the commemoration of Earth Day, the company also participates in the global Earth Hour movement, where millions of people in over 150 countries switch off their lights to join the fight against climate change.
Earth Hour carries a quieter, more reflective observance where turning off non-essential lights for 60 minutes becomes a powerful symbol of unity can ripple to create a significant impact. It is also a moment to pause, reflect and realize that caring for the environment begins with conscious choices in our daily lives.
For TVIRD, it is also a promise to do its part in the global effort against global warming, all while inspiring the same among its employees, communities and partners.
A Commitment Beyond Mining
Over the years, TVIRD has proven that environmental responsibility it is a way of life and not mere compliance. By keeping these traditions alive, the company creates meaningful opportunities for its people and partners to play an active role in protecting the planet.
And as the company continues to grow, it remains firm in striking a balance between progress and preservation, between its business objectives and social responsibility. Each light turned off, each tree planted and each voice heard is part of a greater promise to safeguard the environment, empower communities and leave a legacy of sustainability for future generations.
