A step towards long-term health and sanitation solutions for host Bayog Municipality
Clean community. TVIRD volunteers, along with residents of Barangay Dipili, proudly highlight the success of their joint community clean-up drive – one of several that the company organizes in its host municipality.Bayog, Zamboanga Del Sur/ September 2025 – As part of its ongoing commitment to promote health and sanitation in its communities, TVI Resource Development Philippines Inc. (TVIRD) organized and participated in its periodic community clean-up drive in host Bayog Municipality, Zamboanga Del Sur Province. The initiative was spearheaded by dedicated volunteer staff form its Balabag Gold-Silver Project and in cooperation with barangay officials and residents – all in the spirit of cooperation in keeping public spaces clean and maintaining a sustainable natural environment.
Bayanihan Spirit
The quarterly activity was led by TVIRD’s Mine Environmental Protection and Enhancement Office (MEPEO) and regularly receives strong participation from company and resident volunteers. It is organized among host barangays Dipili, Depore, Pulang Bato and Dimalinao, and scaled-up to include other neighboring barangays.
In parts of the Philippines – especially on the barangay level – communities remain vulnerable to water and airborne diseases as a result of poor sanitation. Exposure to pathogens from flies, rats and mosquitoes easily transmits diseases such as salmonella, leptospirosis, dengue and malaria. Meantime, direct contact with contaminated waste can spread bacteria and parasites while inhaling toxic substances from decomposing / burning waste contributes to respiratory illnesses like asthma, cardiovascular diseases and even leukemia.
The company’s initiative aims to address these inconvenient realities and likewise raise awareness on proper waste management for the sake of public health. Through the barangays’ support, the program is better assured of participation and a greater sense of community ownership.
During the recent clean-up, volunteers focused on key priority areas, including public roads and sidewalks, drainage and canal systems, parks and communal spaces, and residential areas prone to litter build-up. The joint teams collected garbage and segregated recyclable and non-recyclable waste, swept streets and sidewalks, cleared congested waterways and tributaries as well as ensured the proper disposal of all collected waste.
Partners in Sustainability
“This clean-up drive reflects TVIRD’s commitment to protecting the environment and cultivating a stronger partnership with the community,” shared Pollution Control Officer Analyn Branzuela. In addition to the quarterly clean-up drives, TVIRD seeks to increase the community’s awareness on achieving a cleaner and more sustainable natural environment as well as encourage even greater participation.
Through its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP), TVIRD continues to address community needs by supporting initiatives that directly address the community’s overall wellbeing and that of the larger natural environment.
Extending its service beyond the mine site, the company strengthens its role as a trusted partner in building cleaner, greener, and more sustainable communities.
