An SDMP Project in cooperation with the DENR, DepEd and Villar SIPAG Foundation

TVIRD representatives are joined by teachers and staff of Bayog Central Elementary School–SPED during the formal turnover of school chairs and supplies under the company’s SDMP project and in partnership with DENR Region IX and the Villar SIPAG Foundation.

Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur / June 2025 – TVI Resource Development Philippines Inc. (TVIRD) renewed its commitment to formative education during the recent turnover of 1,800 armchairs and school supplies to 37 beneficiary schools in host Bayog Municipality. The contribution was conducted through its Balabag Gold-Silver Project and in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region IX (DENR IX), the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Villar SIPAG Foundation.

The initiative, titled “From Cut Trees to School Chairs,” was made possible through the company’s Social Development and Management Program (SDMP), which benefits schools and communities across Bayog.  Moreover, the program supports the education of children in its municipality and provides them with a conducive learning environment for inclusive learning.

Pillars of Education

The series of handovers was formally received by the respective school principals and their teachers.  The company was represented by TVIRD Community Relations Superintendent Meriam Embate, who was joined by Marivic Vargas of DENR Region IX and DepEd Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Schools District Supervisor Bim Estano.

“This contribution of school chairs and supplies reflects TVIRD’s commitment to education under its SDMP.  It is a testament that mining is not just about extraction – but rather, it is a catalyst for lasting change that leads to sustainability,” said Embate.

Under the program, the trees covered by the company’s Special Tree Cutting and Earth-balling Permit (STCEP) were manufactured into durable pieces of school furniture.  This initiative is also part of the company’s broader commitment to education, having supported over 8,500 scholars across 67 partner schools and universities over the years.

Rooted in Service

TVIRD addresses community needs through its SDMP – all while advancing education with plans for expansion beyond Bayog and into its neighboring municipalities.

The recent turnover builds on TVIRD’s long-standing tradition of supporting education through Brigada Eskwela, providing materials and a volunteer team to help repair and improve the classrooms and create better learning environments.  This voluntary service is performed in the spirit of ensuring that the students have the tools they need in school to better obtain the knowledge that will help them in the future.
