A dedication to one global community united in its drive for sustainability

As the sun rises over the rolling hills of TVIRD’s Balabag Project, Earth Day 2026 begins with a renewed commitment to responsible mining that truly cares for the environment.

Makati City / May 2025 – Over the years, the TVIRD Group has consistently implemented mining projects that reduce environmental impact while promoting long-term ecological sustainability within and beyond its operating areas. Key initiatives include progressive rehabilitation and reforestation efforts that restore mined-out and disturbed areas through the propagation of various tree species.

United by one purpose to ensure the sustainability of both the community and its natural environment, TVI Resource Development Philippines Inc. (TVIRD) commemorated Earth Day 2026 in its three mining sites: at the Agata Nickel Laterite Project, the Balabag Gold and Silver Project, and the Siana Gold Project, which is operated by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Greenstone Resources Corporation.

“Environmental stewardship is not a one-time effort. But rather, it is a living commitment that is embedded in everything we do,” said TVIRD Director for Tenement Management and Environmental Compliance Jesalyn Guingguing.

Anchored on the global theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” each mining site rolled out activities that highlighted collective action, community participation, and a shared accountability in protecting the environment.

Agata’s ridge-to-reef trail run

At the height of its operations in Agusan del Norte, Agata implemented a ridge-to-reef method in its environmental programs – a holistic approach that ensured the sustainability of its upland forestry programs as well as the cleanliness of its pristine shores down below.

Now on its final rehabilitation stage, Agata celebrated Earth Day with a 10-kilometer trail run from its Administration Building down to its YEBO Beach Resort in Sitio Payong-Payong. The marathon was actively participated by Environmental Science students from Caraga State University and BS Agricultural Science students from Surigao del Norte College of Agriculture and Technology.

Balabag’s cultural celebration

Before sunrise broke over the hills of Balabag on the other side of Mindanao, participants were already gathering for the company’s festivities – a daylong event celebration that brought together eight teams in a vibrant display of heritage inspired by Zamboanga del Sur’s tribal groups.

The morning opened with Zumba exercises, a fun run, and a photo walk that enjoined participants to document their surroundings in line with this year’s theme.  Participants then joined the Karerang Kalikasan (nature race), which carried lessons on waste segregation, tree conservation, water preservation, recycling, and responsible choices for the environment.

By evening, the atmosphere shifted to one of reflection as participants gathered for the symbolic lighting of the ceremonial flame and the Search for Mr. & Ms. Earth 2026 Pageant – a festive gathering to culminate the daylong activity with high energy.

Greenstone’s landmark solar installation

Back in Surigao del Norte, Greenstone celebrated Earth Day with activities that showcased the company’s living advocacy – ongoing projects in progressive rehabilitation, reforestation, waste management, and renewable energy within its operations and host communities.

On the same day, Greenstone also inaugurated its 5.3-Megawatt solar farm in the presence of honored guest, Mines and Geosciences Bureau Caraga Regional Director Engr. Francis Glenn Suante who declared the project as the first in the entire region.

“This solar project is the first of its kind here in the Caraga Region where a mining company put up a large-scale solar farm to help offset its energy requirements and strengthen its power supply,” said RD Suante during the Phase 1 energization of the plant.

Greenstone President and General Manager Engr. Anthony B. Quijano also highlighted the inspiration behind the pioneering project: “This initiative stands as a testament to our company’s core value of environmental excellence. It showcases our drive to help the planet by harnessing clean renewable energy that will provide sustainable electric power for years to come.”

A common thread

Across all TVIRD project sites, the Earth Day celebrations served as a powerful reminder that environmental protection is a collective duty – one that requires the active participation of employees, partners, and stakeholders alike.

Each initiative emphasized that sustainability begins with everyday choices and grows stronger when people work together. And that is the spirit behind “Our Power, Our Planet” – empowering people to make responsible choices that would hopefully make a dent – and ultimately elevate their contributions to the ranks of the greater global community.

And while making an informed decision is smart and sensible, providing people with proper guidance in making responsible choices will prove to be even more powerful.
