Developing a health-conscious lifestyle to commemorate the country’s 50th Nutrition Month

Tubod, Surigao del Norte / August 2024 – Greenstone Resources Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of TVI Resource Development Philippines Inc. (TVIRD) and operator of the Siana Gold Project, recently held a whole-day culinary event to commemorate the National Nutrition Month at its mine site in Tubod Municipality of this province.  

Now on its 50th year, the annual national celebration aims to encourage more Filipinos to follow a healthy lifestyle, choose nutritious food and engage in regular physical exercise.

Event Highlights

The Greenstone celebration featured various activities geared to educate participants on proper nutrition and healthy living like physical exercise – a focal point of the event – with Zumba sessions and fun runs that encouraged participants to find engaging ways to stay active.

“As a company, we recognize that healthy living and eating nutritious food are essential to the well-being of our employees and the overall strength of our organization,” said Greenstone Assistant General Manager Joey Cameros.

Local home cooks and chefs at heart showed how to prepare nutritious and delicious meals using locally-sourced ingredients, highlighting the ease of achieving a healthy diet – and that Filipino cuisine can just be as palatable as gourmet cooking.  The company also hosted a poster-making contest to showcase its employees’ creative talents.

Nutrition Month’s Mandate

Nutrition Month is an important annual campaign established through Presidential Decree 491, which was signed in 1974.  Its primary goal is to raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition and to enjoin citizens to participate in activities that promote healthy eating habits and lifestyle changes.  The initiative aligns with the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) – a strategic framework developed by the Department of Health in order to address the country’s nutritional challenges.

This year’s theme, “Sa PPAN: Sama-sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat (Together in nutrition that is fit for all),” emphasizes the collective action toward achieving sufficient nutrition.  It highlights the need for a unified approach wherein government agencies, private sector entities, non-government organizations and the community work together to ensure that nutritional needs are met across all demographics, especially among vulnerable populations.

Greenstone’s participation in the Nutrition Month campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition and healthy living, equips its employees with adequate knowledge and resources needed to make informed dietary choices and reduce the prevalence of overweight and obesity in the workforce, leading to better overall health.

As the company actively participates in national health initiatives, the celebration of National Nutrition Month serves as a reminder of the collective effort needed to ensure adequate nutrition for all in building a healthier future.
