Monitoring is another step towards the coveted Presidential Award
Surigao City/ March 2024 – Greenstone Resources Corporation (GRC), a wholly-owned affiliate company of TVI Resource Development Philippines, Inc. (TVIRD), has been favorably recognized during the first quarter Mine Rehabilitation Fund Committee (MRFC) meeting last February 26, at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 13 Office.
The committee consists of the MGB Regional Director and representatives of the DENR Regional Office, Environment Bureau Region XII, PREACH Foundation (an NGO), Provincial Government, religious sector, and host municipalities. The company was represented by no less than GRC General Manager Albert Charles Chan.
The MRFC oversees the rigorous implementation of the approved Annual Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (AEPEP) for mining and mineral processing projects as well as designates the Multipartite Monitoring Team (MMT) as its monitoring entity. Regular MRFC meetings and MMT inspections are conducted quarterly for operating companies and semi-annually for non-operating companies.
During the preliminaries, the TVIRD Tenement Management and Environmental Compliance Director, Jesalyn Guingguing, presented the company’s ongoing three-year development plan, which includes the establishment of Tailings Storage Facility 6 of the Project.
During the Operations Review, the company was asked about the big leap for Solar Energy, as the monitoring team confirmed that the company will be utilizing a sustainable and renewable energy source to augment grid electricity.
In her response, Guingguing stated the company’s objective, which is “to adapt a more environmentally sustainable approach and leverage on technology to maximize energy generation while meeting the power requirements of the company’s processing plant.”
Upon the conclusion of the said meeting, the Company was applauded for its exceptional performance in surpassing more than 95% of its AEPEP targets for 2023. This remarkable achievement demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
The MRFC team said that the MGB will grant the company a certification in the upcoming meeting. This certification officially recognizes the company’s outstanding performance and adherence to environmental standards.
