TVIRD is again partner in Zambo press club campus journalism workshop
The biggest and oldest media organization in the Zamboanga Peninsula has once again tapped TVI Resource Development Philippines, Inc. (TVIRD) as a major corporate sponsor of the Zamboanga del Norte Press Club (ZNPC) Campus Journalism Seminar.

The partnership between the two organizations – the second in two years – was
formalized in ceremonies held recently in Dipolog City, and participated in
by ZNPC’s other institutional partners, the Department of Education (DepEd)
and the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial government. Now in its 40th year, this
much-awaited seminar seeks to promote responsible journalism among the best
and the brightest high school students – selected by respected schools – in
Zamboanga del Norte province’s 25 municipalities and two cities, and to identify
promising journalists among these students. ZNPC President Edith Pagente-Tomong,
DepEd-Dipolog City’s Dr. Perla Absin, DepEd-Dapitan City’s Majarani Jacinto
and TVIRD Public Affairs Director Rocky Dimaculangan, signed the Memorandum
of Agreement that outlined the partners’ commitments to ensure the successful
conduct of the seminar’s 40th staging. The signing was witnessed by by Dipolog
City Mayor Evelyn Uy, Dipology City Councilor James Verduguez, Philippine Chamber
of Commerce and Industry Regional Director Edwin Capili, TVIRD Legal Counsel
Kenneth Rosal and local and national media practioners.

“The road has been officially cemented tonight, with friendship and with sincere and dedicated commitments, by the stakeholders, especially TVIRD which has renewed its ties with us. When we knock into the hearts of well-meaning citizens, government agencies and private sectors for assistance, we take seriously our promise to help the youths become responsible and productive citizens and journalists of our country,” averred Pagente-Tomong after the signing.
“The Club would like to give extra credit to TVIRD for its unselfish cooperation in attaining our objectives towards a better society through our youth,” she added.
A two-day workshop in each of the Seminar’s 10 clusters will be conducted, beginning July 14. The topics will include workshops on News, Feature, Editorial, Sports, Copy reading and Headline Writing, as well as Editorial Cartooning, Layouting, Photo-Journalism, Broadcasting, Media Ethics and Laws on Libel will be facilitated by reputable resource speakers from the ZNPC. The Seminar has produced several National Winners in the National Secondary Schools Press Conference.
ZNPC made TVIRD its first ever corporate sponsor last year after Club officers saw for themselves the Company’s socio-economic and environmental protection initiatives for its host Subanon indigenous community in Canatuan, Barangay Tabayo, Siocon town south of the province where TVIRD conducts mining operations.

Club officers said this is part of their commitment to work for a responsible press; a partner in community, unity, and progress.
